Silver Electroplating

Silver Electroplating: cost efficient and effective

Silver Plating from Summit is the preeminent metal coating for cost-efficient physical and functional enhancement. Silver can be formulated to deliver a wide range of finishes, tensile properties, durability levels, and performance advantages. Because Silver can tarnish over time, an anti-tarnish coating can also be applied where appearance is an important role of a part’s function.

Silver Electroplating Advantages include:

Electrical Conductivity: Greatly enhanced Electrical Conductivity makes silver the ideal choice when dependable but efficient enhanced conductivity reqiuired. Aerospace and electronics professionals often look to silver for this reason.

Thermal Conductivity: Excellent Thermal Conductivity make Silver Plating a preferred coating where exposure to high and fluctuating temperatures is commonplace. automobile manufacturers often use silver for these durable properties.

Corrosion-resistance: Silver electroplating from Summit adds a durable, wear-resistant coating to metal substrates. Even when applied as a thin layer, the protective barrier that Silver provides provideda cost-efficient corrosion resistance for “common material” parts.

Antibacterial: Because silver is a Noble metal, it thwarts the growth of bacteria and potentially harmful organisms. Silver Plating is therefore an excellent option for plating medical tools and devices that come in contact with the human body.

Light weight: Despite its durability, Silver is surprisingly lightweight. It is also easy to solder and mold for parts that need to attach to one another.

Silver plating to meet strict industrial specifications.

Summit Silver Electroplating meets Certification Requirements mandated by highly technical and monitoired industries. These Requiremnentrs  dictate standards for plating finish, thickness, texture and functional performance. Silver Specifications Summit conforms to include:

MIL-QQ-S-365
MIL-QQ-S-365 was the “federal standard” before ASTM B700 was established. Because MIL-QQ-S-36 mandates a minimum plating thickness of 0.0005 inches is still used in many engineering applications where silver plating is needed to improve physical function characteristics.

ASTM B700
ASTM replaced Federal Silver Standard MIL-QQ-S-365. ASTM B700 is mandated for many engineering applications, setting minimum standards for silver plating material purity. ASTM is divided into 3 “silver purity” categories:

  • ASTM B700 | Type I: Silver content of at least 99.9%
  • ASTM B700 | Type II: Silver content of at least 99.0%
  • ASTM B700 | Type III: Silver content of at least 98.0%

ASTM B 298
ASTM B 298 is a specification that Summit achieves for silver electroplating on copper wire used in electrical applications. ASTM B 298 sets standards tensile strength , electrical resistivity, plating weight, and plating thickness.

Silver Plating to meet diverse industry needs.

All combined, the cost and performance enhancements of Silver Plating  make it a preferred surface choice for circuit connectors, fiber optic cables, medical devices, and performance critical parts used in  Aerospace, Automotive, Telecommunications, and Consumer Goods.
